Program & Development Internship Available

Youth Advocacy Center (YAC), a nonprofit agency focused on guiding teens in and at-risk of foster care to successful adulthood, seeks a mature college or graduate student for an internship (12-15 hours/week). Youth Advocacy Center’s seeks to prepare teens in need-those who lack resources and opportunities - to reach their aspirations for the future through self-advocacy. We believe strongly that teens in foster care and at-risk have the desire, talents and potential to be participating citizens- to hold jobs, to play a role in their community, to live in safe neighborhoods, and to raise their children to be educated and healthy. We also train other social service professionals in our methods and philosophy.

This internship will provide you with the opportunity to learn a tremendous amount about the foster care system and the nonprofit sector. We are very interested in knowing and working around your interests and skills, however, some possible duties include:

- Research and recommend new fundraising and development opportunities
- Develop fundraising proposals with senior staff
- Assist staff in administering aspects of the program
- Help with publicity and organizing training sessions on program
- Maintain and update communications and marketing materials
- Update databases

Skills:
- Ability to work independently in a small office setting
- Ability to set and meet deadlines
- Ability to collaborate on projects
- Strong reading, writing, and research skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word & Excel) and Internet - Knowledge of Dreamweaver and graphic design extremely useful
- Interest in non-profit work

Experience/education:
- Some work experience in an office environment (not necessarily non-profit)
- Some college or graduate work

12-15 hours per week, flexible days and times. This is an unpaid internship; however, we will work with you to receive school credit or recommendations.
